Creating a Double Desk with Annie Sloan
When we moved into the new house, we wanted to have a designated area that we could call our office. The former owners used the area we liked as a dining area, but the space was much too small for a true dining room. There is a bay window and plenty of room for a desk. A single desk was always in the plan, however, after talking about how much each of us would be using the space we decided to go with a double desk. Finding one of these new was next to impossible without breaking the bank. We found this dining table on Craigslist for $75. Its solid oak and…

North Carolina Hike – Hawksbill Mountain
As many times as I have been to the North Carolina High Country, this was the first time I had heard about Hawksbill. A friend mentioned we really needed to give the trail a try and once we reached the top, the view would not disappoint. I will start off by saying that this trail is a moderate/difficult trail. If you are not in good cardiovascular health, as I wasn’t, this trail will push you. There were several times I wanted to quit and give up, but giving up is not in my nature so I pressed on. Slowly, but surely on I went. The trail is easy to follow…

Deck Restoration: Making Your Deck Look New
We moved into a new home recently and one of the first things that needed to be done was stain/restore the front and back porch. It was gray, molded and looked gross. This was going to be the place where we spent the majority of our days and it was not very inviting. We needed to find the best deck restoration method out there without replacing it completely. I researched many different products for refinishing a deck and adding new life to our wood. The one we settled on was Olympic RESCUE IT! MAX Resurfacer + Primer + Sealant, which we purchased from Lowe’s. This sealant/paint not only seals your…

How to Effectively Eliminate Geese from Your Yard
When we moved into the new house we were absolutely giddy over our view. We couldn’t believe that we got to wake up to everyday to look outside to a wonderful lake view. It is a small lake, but a lake all the same. One thing we did not expect was the “honking” of geese non-stop on a daily and early morning basis. The geese were not that bad, but the “droppings” they left in our yard became a major issue. Nasty droppings all over my entire acre! It was gross and unsanitary. I love all animals, I really do, but something had to give. Several friends and family told…

What to See & Do for One Day at Lake Tahoe
One day is not enough at this gorgeous place! We were only near Sacramento for a short time and couldn’t let a chance to visit Lake Tahoe pass us by. The drive The drive into Tahoe has many hairpin turns. The pine trees driving into South Lake Tahoe are remarkable. They were definitely the largest pines we had ever laid eyes on. Clean air and a crisp breeze was all we needed riding up the mountain. As we came into South Lake Tahoe we stopped at one of the local drug stores to see if there was a local map so we didn’t miss any of the best stops along…
