Mt Dora, FL

I hate that I haven’t gotten to this post yet because this was one of my favorite trips! We traveled to Mt. Dora and Orlando, FL a few weeks ago. Since this was the week before most schools go back, we avoided all things Disney. We love Disney but we don’t enjoy huge crowds that this time of year can bring. We chose to stay about 25 miles north of Orlando in a small town called Mt. Dora. This town sits on Lake Dora. The 100-year-old historic village is extremely charming! Downtown has a wide range of  shops, restaurants, activities and they are very dog friendly. Several restaurants that we enjoyed were the Frog & Monkey Pub and PizzAmore’. Everything is close enough to Dora Lake that you can walk right down after dinner and watch the sunset. We are not a fan of the traffic and congestion that surrounds Orlando in general and this was nice to be able to stay close and not feel as though we couldn’t breathe. If you are going to Orlando and want to do something different, consider this quaint little village.

The Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center was at the top of our list on this trip. Even if you have no interest in space and the NASA programs, you will find this very interesting. I suggest arriving when they open. There is so much to see and do and it is all included with the price of admission. IMAX movies, tours, exhibits, etc. Unless you want to get up close and personal with an astronaut, everything is included with your ticket. We would have loved to have met an astronaut, but ran out of time. There is a cool breeze blowing constantly since you are right near the Atlantic and this made the August heat bearable.
