How to Handle a New Puppy Like a Pro
We made the decision that it was time for us to get our two little boys a new sister! We have been talking about getting another dog for some. Both are pups are creeping into their senior years and neither of them has ever been alone. They both do really well with other dogs and are extremely playful with new pups.
We got our sweet girl and we couldn’t be happier we did! She fits in so well with our little Pomeranian pack and she is loving her new home! She plays so well with the other two and they are both great with her.
There are many things to consider before purchasing or adopting a new puppy:
- Do you have the time for a puppy?
- Pomeranian puppies, as most puppies, require A LOT of attention and love. Be sure your schedule allows you to give them this.
- Do you have the patience for a puppy?
- This one goes with any new pup. They will need to be trained and put on a schedule. This will also need time and lots of patience
- Can you heart handle the love you will receive?
- Seriously! There is no greater love than the love from a dog! ♥
What you need
- Leash & harness
- We use harnesses because they are more comfortable for the dog and less harmful than a collar. Pomeranians are also prone to have a collapsing tracheas which prevents us from using collars on them.
- Crate
- I purchased a small crate for our girl to sleep in until she is big enough to sleep in the bed with me. She only weighs 2.8lbs so she is quite fragile right now. I purchased my 24′ crate HERE.
- Solvit Pet Booster Seat
- I LOVE these seats for my furbabies. They are incredible. I purchased mine from Amazon, it is the Solvit Tagalong On-Seat Pet Booster, Deluxe, Jumbo . Also, see my post on The Best Way to Keep Your Dog Safe While Traveling to get a little more run down on this seat.
After you have the items you think you will need, you must take your puppy in for a vet check. I recommend doing this within 48 hours of purchasing your new pup. We took ours the next day and everything checked out but you never know!
